Winter tyres;
Winter tyres are mandatory in Croatia from 15 November to 15 April or whenever winter conditions are present. They keep rubber pliable below +7°C, shorten braking distance on snow and ice, and are marked M+S or 3PMSF on the sidewall. Pick the factory-recommended size for your vehicle and a tyre rated for the colder months you actually drive.
Croatian winter tyre law (15.11–15.04)
Croatian law requires winter tyres on all four wheels from 15 November to 15 April, or any time winter driving conditions exist (snow, ice, wet road below +7°C). Tread depth must be at least 4 mm. Penalties apply on motorways and most county roads. Carry chains where signed. Source: Pravilnik o tehničkim uvjetima vozila.
Sidewall markings: M+S vs 3PMSF
- M+S (Mud + Snow) - manufacturer self-declaration; legacy marking accepted in Croatia.
- 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) - independent snow-grip test pass; preferred for true winter performance.

FAQ
When are winter tyres mandatory in Croatia?
From 15 November to 15 April, and whenever winter conditions are present (snow, ice, wet road below +7°C). Required on all four wheels with tread ≥ 4 mm.
Is M+S marking enough or do I need 3PMSF?
M+S is legally accepted in Croatia. 3PMSF is preferred for true winter performance because it requires an independent snow-grip test pass.
Can I run all-season tyres year-round?
Yes if they are 3PMSF-marked and tread depth is ≥ 4 mm. All-season tyres compromise on extreme winter and high-speed summer performance.
